I wasn't really in the mood to run today. I was exhausted from all of our travels and slept to after 1 p.m. I really just wanted to lounge around and be lazy. But, I didn't get my speed workout in yesterday due to travel, and Tim and I actually have identical workouts all week, so he pursuaded me to get my lazy butt off the couch and get out for a run.
And I'm so glad I did. I LOVE speed workouts! They go by quickly, and they stretch out your legs, particularly welcome after sitting on a plane for a few hours yesterday. And they always boost my confidence--making me feel strong and fast.
Today's workout was no exception. After an easy jog down to Defoor from our house at about 11:00 pace, we did 6 x 400's. My target was between 2:00-2:10 per segment, while Tim's was around 2:00. My splits were 2:02. 2:04, 1:58, 2:00, 1:57 and 1:56 (thanks, Garmin!). Just fast and easy. I've have about five weeks left to prepare for my 10K, and I'm feeling really confident at this point. We jogged back to our place at around 9:30 pace, and it felt easy. I'm really looking forward to running in 2009!
Here's what I have on tap:
February 7: Chattahoochee Challenge 10K, Roswell, GA
Goal: sub 55:00
March 15: Shamrock 'n' Roll, Atlanta, GA
Goal: sub 55:00 IF I don't beat that at the Chattahoochee Challenge; otherwise, sub 1:00:00.
March 29: ING Half Marathon, Atlanta, GA
Goal: 2:10:00
July 4: Peachtree Road Race, Atlanta, GA
Goal: 54:00
October 25: Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, DC
Goal: 4:30:00
November 26: Atlanta Half Marathon, Atlanta, GA
Goal: 2:10:00
There's a possibility I'll swap Chicago for Marine Corps if my sister and future brother-in-law end up in Chicago. Also, I will probably add a few small races here and there--I'd love to do a sub 25 minute 5K and get in a fall 10K so I'm not out of practice.
But I'm well on my way to finishing my first marathon! I'm looking forward to the year and miles ahead!
